Fast-Track Food Retail Expansion for Major Indian Business Conglomerate
This project aimed to establish a fast-growing hypermarket and supermarket chain for one of India’s top business conglomerates. Starting with a detailed unit economics analysis, we evaluated operational viability, profitability benchmarks, and location-specific factors essential for sustainable growth. Our team conducted a retail catchment analysis, including city-wise potential and cannibalization assessments, to determine the optimal number of stores per area. The strategic growth plan covered manpower requirements, real estate acquisition, warehousing, and logistics, enabling a smooth scale-up. We also prepared a thorough, bottoms-up business plan that outlined financial targets, operational guidelines, and key success metrics, all of which received board approval. Our engagement extended into the implementation phase, where we developed a detailed merchandising strategy, identified and secured key vendors, and crafted supplier agreements. We established store operation protocols, recruited leadership for critical roles, and recommended ERP and technology platforms. Additionally, we supported the execution of essential retail processes, ensuring alignment with strategic goals. The result was a fully operational chain of hypermarkets and supermarkets, launched across key cities in a record nine months. This rapid execution set a new industry standard for speed and efficiency in retail expansion, delivering a strong foothold in India’s competitive food and grocery sector for our client.
